Public pursuit of fusion
Why are we taking such a public approach to the pursuit of fusion? Several reasons.
- Fusion is barely discussed in the media. We want to create greater public awareness of fusion alternatives.
- We want to leverage the internet to stimulate scientific discovery.
- We want to empower people to get involved in potentially the biggest discovery of the century, to create an environment of possibility and adventure and reclaim science as a popular pastime.
- In the event that fusion works, the world will change dramatically. We don’t want this to come as a total shock. It’s best to hash out the implications now, while we’re still on this side of the discovery, even if it does seem a bit premature and speculative. Join the forums!
- While we don’t subscribe to the conspiracy theories about the untimely demise of Fusion innovators or those who challenge the energy industry status quo, it’s better to be safe than sorry, so we just figure no one will axe us if we’re in the public eye. No, we’re not paranoid.
Seeking funding in an internet age
* You may have heard about “The Corporatization of Academia”, how much of the research these days is corporate driven, and how this can taint academic research as well. The reality is, research requires huge risks and large sums of money. Only large organizations can muster the venture capital - government, corporations, wealthy individuals. In general, most research is profit driven. As such, there is always the potential for conflicts of interest and other problems, such as companies trying to squelch the release of research they helped underwrite.
* But wait! We live in the decentralized internet age. Why stop at submitting a grant proposal to just a handful of agencies, or give a few elite investors an opportunity, when we can pitch an idea to everyone? Let’s leverage the “Long Tail” phenomenon to support science research.
* This lets everyone be the venture capitalist they want to see in the world. This is the age of micro-loans, why not cummulative venture capital from a wide pool of people?
* If the Plasma Focus device works, those people that contributed funds to this venture get to bask in the realization that they have made history happen in a big way! And this software helps us keep track of all the contributions! Support us now!
