Principles vs. Creed
The initial draft of our statement of principles was called the "Focus Fusion Creed", and the sentences all started with "We believe..."

Eric pointed out that this made us sound religious, which is ironic for a science based endeavor. We are venturing into the unknown, pursuing proof of concept. Faith is not required here, nor is belief.

What is required is that we roll up our sleeves and pursue thoughts and hypotheses with as much logic as we can muster - and listen to the data.

What you see now is the final version, in which we think, rather than believe, and we follow principles, rather than profess a creed.

The Principles by which the Focus Fusion Society operates:

We think that making unlimited, cheap, clean energy practically available to all mankind is the key to enhancing the wealth of all nations and people while preserving and repairing the environment of our home planet.

We think that it is our duty to our species and our fellow planet-mates to do everything we can to develop fusion and make it available to all.

We think that it is possible to have safe, cheap, clean, abundant energy from fusion by using a smaller, more elegant approach than is currently being pursued by conventional fusion researchers.

We will use our best efforts to achieve the goal of fusion development, both through developing the technology of the plasma focus device (which we think offers the best chance for harnessing fusion), and also through cooperating with other colleagues that are pursuing different fusion ideas.

We think that alternative routes to fusion should be adequately funded, that the fusion field as a whole needs more money. As such, we will lobby for greater funding from all sources.

We think that everyone can be involved in the development of fusion. By opening up the process to the public we are giving everyone who contributes a chance to make their personal mark on history, to be active participants in the creation of a wonderful new future, not just passive recipients of technology. Fusion is a power source that is fundamentally empowering.

As we work towards our goal, we will conduct ourselves as individuals and as an organization in accord with the highest standards of integrity, fairness, honesty and respect for our partners and the public.
